All of the plants in the Winter Garden have either winter flowers, beautiful bark, colourful foliage or heavily scented leaves. There are many heathers, hundreds of bulbs and some unusual evergreen trees.

The Bridge Garden
A serpentine red brick path leads you to the bridge which gives this garden its name; intertwined with white scented wisteria, this part of Pinetum has a huge variety of flowers and plants,as well as the horse statue pictured.

The Cottage Garden
This garden contains many perennials backed with shrubs — a true ‘cottage garden’ combination of herbaceous, bulbs, shrubs, trees, ferns and climbers.

Arboretum
First planted in 1982 after removing the remains of a fir plantation, the trees and rhododendrons in the arboretum are now maturing nicely.

Pinetum
You’ll discover more than 80 different conifers in the four-acre Pinetum. Specially planted in the shape of an amphitheatre, the largest trees are on the perimeter with the lowest in the entrance.

The Lake
This peaceful spot is wonderful for a moment of quiet self-reflection, or watching the wildlife.

Japanese Garden
This Skakkei garden is the result of detailed planning following a visit to Kyoto, with a summer house and nods to Kyoto Botanical Gardens.

Water Garden
Dragonflies, herons, frogs, newts and all manner of other wildlife are drawn to the Water Garden; it’s surrounded by Giant Gunnera and has plenty of seating should you wish to take a pitstop.

Courtyard Garden
Designed as a formal garden with a centrepiece statue, the Courtyard Garden is surrounded by coloured grasses and the three borders incorporating a wide range of colour.
