Spring Highlights at Pinetum Gardens

Spring is arguably the most dynamic season at Pinetum Gardens. As the days lengthen and the Cornish air begins to warm, the 30 acres of our estate undergo a rapid and spectacular transformation.

The Magnolias Have Arrived

Our Magnolia campbellii is always a spectacular sight. This year, due to a mild winter, the buds have opened slightly earlier than usual, delivering an absolutely breathtaking display of large, cup-and-saucer pink blooms.

You'll find the best specimens in the Courtyard Garden, where their vibrant colour contrasts beautifully against the still-waking structures of the formal beds.

A Carpet of Snowdrops and Bluebells

In our Woodland Walk, our Head Gardener's hard work has truly paid off. Over the winter, we planted an additional 500 heritage snowdrop bulbs. They are currently carpeting the woodland floor in a brilliant display of white and green.

As we move deeper into spring, these will give way to our native bluebells, creating that iconic, shimmering blue haze under the awakening tree canopy.

What Else to Look Out For

• Rhododendrons in the Arboretum: Early-flowering varieties are already showing colour.
• Birdlife: Spring means nesting season. The gardens are alive with birdsong, making it the perfect time for quiet observation from one of our many secluded benches.
• The Water Garden: The aquatic plants are beginning to show new growth, and you might spot the first dragonflies of the year darting across the infinity water course.
